Music is a major part of any wedding, as we all know, it isn’t much of a party without music and choosing the song you want for your first dance can be a long and hard decision. DJ’s can help relieve some stress in the planning process by creating a playlist with many songs for your special evening, but the first dance is something that really needs to be chosen by you. It needs to be a song that represents your partner and yourself as a newly married couple; one that you can reminisce on without regret for years to come (tip: don’t pick one that is currently top ten on the radio as you will likely be sick of it by the time your wedding roles around).

There are many things to consider with a first dance: Are you going to perform an upbeat routine? Are you more into a slow ballroom dance? Do you want your guests to clap their hands or smile with teary eyes? It can definitely be hard coming to an agreement with your partner about which song would be best. One great option for compromise is to have your DJ’s mesh together a transition between two songs in order to make both of you happy. But before this can be done you have to narrow it down to your top song choices. We have put together a list of our favourite new and old first dance songs, some of which really make the heart melt while a few more upbeat ones make you want to bust some moves.
- 1. Can’t help falling in love – Ingrid Michaelson
- 2. I wont give up – Jason Mraz
- 3. Make sure you feel my love – Adele
- 4. You’re my best friend – Queen
- 5. Simplest Love – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
- 6. What a wonderful world – Louis Armstrong
- 7. Marry you – Bruno Mars
- 8. One and only – Adele
- 9. Marry me – Train
- 10. L.O.V.E – Nat King Cole

Any of these songs will definitely make your first dance as a married couple memorable no matter what genre you choose. And don’t forget to practice, practice, practice, it will help take away some of the unneeded nerves during your wedding when all eyes are on you.
