I love my engagement ring more and more each day. Not just because it is the most beautiful piece of jewelry I have ever owned, but also because of the love and commitment it represents. Therefore, it is important for me to show my ring the same love. After almost one year of being engaged, here is what I have learned about taking good care of my ring.
1) Insurance
If you lose your ring, or it gets damaged, insurance will ensure it could be replaced. You can typically have your ring added to your home insurance by giving your insurance provider a call, and sending in documents with the ring specifications. Easy enough, and well worth it!
2) Avoid lakes/oceans
Losing your ring in a large body of water would be a sad day! Be cautious when boating, swimming, or partaking in any water sports. On the bright side, if you have your ring insured, you could get it replaced (depending on the quality of your insurance)!
3) Ring Cleaning
Make sure you get your ring cleaned regularly. Most jewelry stores will clean your ring free of charge. However, you can also purchase your own ring cleaning solution to clean your ring at home, or use a toothbrush and homemade cleaner.
4) Keeping it Clean of Products
Soap, shampoo, body lotion, household-cleaning products can all damage your ring or make it look dirty. I have a designated ring dish in our house, and every time I do dishes, take a shower or clean the house, I put the ring in that dish. This way, I get in the habit of placing it here, and it won’t get lost when my hands are dirty.

5) Sports and Activities
I take my ring off for some of the sports I play, so that my ring doesn’t snag on clothes, and the prongs holding the diamond in place don’t get banged. While diamonds are incredibly durable stones, the rest of the ring could be damaged a bit more easily from vigorous activity.
For the first few weeks after I got engaged, I was constantly distracted by this new addition on my left hand. Whether I was walking down the street, talking to someone, or typing on my laptop, I kept holding my hand up and admiring my ring. A year later I still am pretty obsessed with my ring, and it makes my day when the Save-on Foods cashier compliments it. Take good care of your ring and let it shine everyday!
